Wollongong 1000 To Kick Off ProKart Season

press release

The 2010 Powered by Honda ProKart Australia New South Wales Endurance Kart Championship is set to kick off this Sunday (February 7) at Wollongong City Raceway with the running of the annual Wollongong 1000 event.

A total of 25 teams are geared up for action as they all aim to contend for the Wollongong 1000 victory spoils in what shapes up to an exciting start to the year in the NSW Championship chase.

Defending National and NSW Champions, Jets Motorsport, last year known as the Wollongong City Raceway Jets, head into this year as favourites and they have every right to be branded with that tag. Last year the Jets Motorsport team dominated both the National and NSW Championships and they are no doubt looking to duplicate that form this year.

Although the Jets Motorsport team are at the top of the form guide there are a numbers of teams that plan to spoil their party. Heading the list of leading contenders are teams such as former National and NSW Champions Team Kaos, Horsepower Racing, Bells Pipes Racing, Two Dogs Racing, SPR Racing, KBC Racing and Shire Racing.

Current Queensland Champions Adrenalin Rush Karting is locked in to contest the NSW Championship and it shapes up to an enthralling battle between them and the Jets as they battle it for the winning spoils throughout the year. Both the # 98 and # 86 teams of Adrenalin Rush Karting have entered the NSW Championship in what will be a busy season for the Port Macquarie (NSW) based team adding to their National Championship commitments.

ProKart Australia would like to welcome a few new teams to their ranks this year and they are Burra Motorsport and Dynamite Racing.

Each team contesting the Wollongong 1000 has between two and five drivers per team and throughout the race they are required to make numerous pit stops for things such as driver changes, fuel, tyre changes and repairs.

Endurance Karting is one of the most exciting and tactical forms of Motorsport and over a distance of 1000 laps around the Wollongong City Raceway circuit anything can happen. The winners in Endurance Karting are not always the fastest out on the circuit but sometimes consistency can conquer all in the end.

Practice and qualifying sessions begin at 9am on Sunday and the Wollongong 1000 race itself is scheduled to begin at 11.50am and go through to 8.55pm.

The Wollongong City Raceway circuit is located on the corner of West Dapto Road and the Princes Highway at Kembla Grange on the South Coast of NSW.

For those that can’t make it out to the track this Sunday for the Wollongong 1000 be sure to visit the prokart.racertv.com.au website to watch the event live.

In 2010 all Endurance Kart events sanctioned by ProKart Australia will be broadcast live over the internet thank to Racer TV in what is an Australian Karting first.
