Vic Superkart Season Opener

Round one of the Victorian Superkart Club 2010 series kicked off at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit on Feb 13 under dry conditions.

Several teams made their way across from South and Western Australia to use the round as a testing session for the Australian Championships at the circuit in May.

In the 250 Inters a consistent  run from Chaz Maddern (SA) saw him win the day ahead of Kristian Stebbing and Western Australian Mark Hanson. The Harpas brothers (SA) chased mechanical issues all day and the cool Gary Pegoraro spent valuable time in set up to set the pace in his two outings.

The 250 National class saw a massive resurgence in numbers which bodes well for the Nationals, Marty Latta getting to know his newly imported machine couldn't quite match the set up of David Yuill while a consistent run from Chris Jewel saw him finish in third.

In both the Rotax classes racing was close all day with the lead and finishing results changing with each lap and heat. The final of Rotax Light was the best in a long time with the lead karts crossing the line five abreast.

Rookie driver and Victorian Junior State Championship contender Tim Clarke spent Valentines day on the track setting some impressive early times in his new Rotax Junior kart. And found out just how long a GP circuit actually is.

A great day of racing under fine conditions. The next outing for Superkarts will be at Calder Park on April 17.
Entry to the circuit is free and spectators are most welcome.
