Kovacic in 2010: KZ2 CIK Combined With US Car Campaign

press release

James Kovacic returned to kart racing at the end of 2009 after ending a very successful Open Wheeler season overseas. Kovacic decided to make his return more interesting by debuting a brand new ‘Energy Corse’ kart in the Leopard Light Class whilst using his trusted 4 year old ‘Monaco’ chassis in Clubman Light. Kovacic’s weekend became even more exciting after winning two State Titles in both classes after only competing in 4 kart race meetings throughout 2009.

After winning the 2008 Junior Clubman National Title and winning on his debut senior class race at the 1st round of the PSC in 2009 (Clubman Light and Tag Light). James’ focus has been on his international open wheeler career throughout 2009 and is certainly the focus for 2010.

However, due to some fantastic support from his long time friends at Oversteer Race Centre (Mitch Biner) on the Central Coast, Precision Motorsport (Doug Mapperson) and Long time engine tuner KartForce (Kip Foster), James is able through the generosity of such people to now attempt the CIK KZ2 Series.

As James states, “The '09 season was fantastic for me and the results were great. Whilst I am very proud to have raced cars overseas in 2009, the biggest pleasure I have is racing karts. For many years I have wanted to do CIK, however, budgets have not allowed me to do so overseas previously and in 2009 I was concentrating on making a mark in Formula BMW. This year my schedule has been organised and I am lucky enough to have the support of many people to be able to race in the KZ2 class for CIK. The KZ2 Gearbox class is a great class to keep me sharp and I will use it to train for my car racing overseas.”

James has a full schedule of racing booked for the open wheeler season in the USA for 2010. He will be using the KZ2 class in order to keep up his fitness levels between car races and keep his race craft sharp.

James goes on to state; “Karting is the best training. The few practices in the KZ2 has been the most fun I’ve had in a kart and I am looking forward to racing against the cream of karting here. Whilst my equipment is a little old and at times difficult to tune, I will drive my hardest and definitely try and give some of the big budget guys a run for their money. I will make sure that I enjoy the experience of racing in my first CIK race. It’s great that CIK has made a comeback to Australia.”

James will be racing internationally in open wheelers in the USA for 2010. He has been invited to race in the Spec Formula 3 Jim Russell Series in the USA. The winner of this series receives a fully funded scholarship drive to race in the FIA Formula 2 series in Europe in 2011. Further to this James is also scheduled to race in a handful of Late Model NASCAR Speedway races on the West Coast of the USA.

James will be competing in an ARROW CIK Shifter Chassis and is being fully supported by local sponsors for the series as his father Val Kovacic states, “James is very fortunate to have a solid group of supporters willing to give him a go in the CIK series. I am sure that he will enjoy himself and I know that he will definitely try his best for the people making it happen for him. James is determined to make a racing career for himself and has been able to generate some great support after his great results internationally in 2009. This support has resulted in allowing James to once again race in cars overseas for this year and has also allowed him to participate in the CIK rounds outside of Queensland.”
