IAME Review - 15th Winter Cup

press release

The 15th Winter Cup held in Lonato (Brescia) is the first International karting rendez-vous of the season. The IAME powered drivers made the most of this race to fine tune their karts and find the right feeling with the engine in view of the season important events.

Let’s start with SKF which saw a very positive start for two promising young karting talents: Nyck De Vries (Zanardi/ Parilla) and Matteo Viganò (Birel/Parilla).

The former, who was a protagonist last year in KF3, finished the Winter Cup in an overall 14th place, the result of rain affected qualifying, a pre-final in which he needed a few laps to fine tune his kart and a final where he battled at the back of the field, eventually finishing in 13th place.

He managed to record the second best lap time however: a sign that the engine is doing well. Matteo Viganò finished in an overall 9th place starting from10th place in the pre-final and ninth in the final. In KF2 the IAME drivers were unlucky. An example? Sami Luka (DR/Parilla) did well in qualifying, 10th overall, although an accident in the pre-final ruined the rest of his weekend. Antonio Giovinazzi (Top Kart/Parilla) also had an excellent one but his overall result was compromised by an accident.

In KF3, Jake Dennis (Top Kart/Parilla) finished 6th (5th in the pre-final), but was satisfied: in fact he finished qualifying in second place, and was always amongst the leaders. Pierre Gasly (Sodi Kart/ Parilla), who was 6th in qualifying, ran into some problems in the pre-final and finished 10th. Worthy of note the 12th place of Niklas Tiihonen (Birel/Parilla) who finished qualifying 9th and the excellent weekend of Lukas Auer (Maddox/Parilla).

Andrea Bossaglia, IAME Technical Director:
“Surprises and confirmations have made us very happy about our choices, both with regards to technical solutions and drivers. This week-end, despite the lack of special results, has been a chance to measure our performance in unfavourable conditions for us. A good preparation for the imminent challenges ahead”.
