Vintage Karters Prep for 'Vintage Day Out' 2010

May 1 will see vintage karters from all over Australia converge at Lithgow for their 'Vintage Day Out' 2010. Although the karts are not allowed to officially race, the event will see a series of ‘practice sessions’ and demonstrations where drivers are given the opportunity to use their karts and show the machine’s full potential.

Karts will range from pre 1962 Historic Karts through 1963-1969 Vintage Karts and on to later model machines that are no longer provided for with current AKA competition classes.

Event coordinator John Horsburgh expects a good turn up of interstate participants with strong contingents coming from Victoria and Queensland. Many people involved in karting today have not had the opportunity to see where karts and karting have evolved from. This event will give them a real insight into how the sport started and just how much it has changed - although the desire for outright speed still remains.

Countless hours of work have been put into restoring and rebuilding karts and engines to their former glory. Many of these early karts were not lacking in horsepower and ran on hard and narrow tyres. This certainly provided for some interesting and entertaining handling!

Admission for spectators is free and all are welcome to come along and have a look and chat with the owners over a BBQ/DINNER at the conclusion of the day.

There will also be a Swap and Sell Area which promises to have some rare and interesting Vintage Karting treasures. If you have any old karting parts, bring them along - you never know who may be looking for them.

The event is being organised by Vintage & Historic Karts Australia in conjunction with Combined Districts Kart Club.
