Preview: NSW Speedway Karts, Rnd 2

press release

This Sunday, the 21st March at 10am will see Round 2 of the 2010 Championship for the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club fire up at the Nepean Motorsport Complex on Rickards Rd Castlereagh. Eighty plus drivers will turn out to contest the 6th running of the annual Nepean Open and with a favorable weather prediction a big crowd is expected to come and watch speedway’s future stars.

Following on from the highly successful Round 1 meeting held 3 weeks ago where a number of surprising results were seen, this weekend’s race will continue the high level of speedway racing shown by all drivers at that meeting.

On top of the championship leader board at this early stage is clubman heavy driver Joel Rhind who holds a slender 1 point lead over former Club Champion Michael Jordan and KT Heavy driver Cameron Coghlan, then a further 1 point back to Nathan Camilleri. The championship chase this year, in the 20th year of the club, is expected to be the tightest ever and it will no doubt come down to the last couple of rounds later in the year.

This year being a milestone year, our 20th,  will be a very special year to be name Club Champion as the history of the club moves into its 3rd decade.

Also from that meeting we saw the first round of the NSW Speedway Kart Premier League conducted and leading coming out of that round was the Big 1 Racing Team, followed by The Benson Bandits and The Destroya’s.

The NSWSKC has always lent itself in helping to promote charity events. In the past we have been involved in Movember and of course last year we held the very successful Darley Day which raised funds for Cure Our Kids. On Sunday this tradition continues with the help and inspiration of one of our fantastic sponsors Gavin Skeene from Stillshots.

This Sunday all the proceeds from every photo Gavin sells will go to the “Be Brave and Shave” Leukemia foundation. So on Sunday not only when you buy a photo from Gavin will you be getting a superb shot but you will also be contributing to this great cause.

Then when all the presentations are completed if you wish to be brave and shave for a $10 or $20 donation you can get a hair cut and again be putting something back to the community.

We would like to thank Gavin for allowing us to be part of this great cause and hope you all can find a couple of extra dollars to help out.

So the stage is set for a wonderful meeting as we run the Nepean Open, the meeting will be held at Nepean Motorsport Complex on Rickards Rd Castlereagh and is scheduled to start at 10am.

There are 28 events on the program and with a full canteen available for all your needs what better way to spend a lazy Sunday if you’re a true speedway fan than watching grass roots speedway action.
Once the racing has finished we would invite everyone to stay back and help celebrate with us.
Our next meeting will be our annual Celebration Day on the 18th April.
