All Night Enduro For Eastern Creek

AKA press release

The Endurance Karting Association (TEKA) has confirmed that one of the most popular endurance karting events is back in 2010 – an eight hour night race at Sydney’s Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway.

To be held on Saturday May 1 the eight-hour journey will see up to 40 teams of four drivers compete on the full International 1.7km length circuit for the eight hour journey.

In the past star drivers such as Marcos Ambrose, Greg Murphy, Craig Baird, Mick Doohan, Greg Rust, Jack Perkins, Gary Holt and Paul Morris have competed in TEKA events on the county’s longest kart track.

“It always great to compete under lights but it is even better when you can do it on such a great track like the 1700m version of Eastern Creek,” said event co-ordinator Justin Sydenham.

“It has got everyone in the endurance karting scene enthused, we’re all really looking forward to the race and putting an enjoyable show for everyone involved.

“One of the huge benefits for the event is that we’ve got the new tracksa lighting system being used making it safer for everyone involved. This system is beginning to revolutionise karting and we are very much looking forward to having the tracksa team as a part of our event.”

In another contrast to regular sprint karting events, practice for the eight-hour race will begin just after the sun sets with the qualifying set to begin after 9pm once the full layout can be utilised.

Once the green flag falls at 11pm the teams will circulate aboard their four-stroke powered karts until well after sunrise to take the chequered flag.

It is anticipated that the winning team will complete in approximately of 260 laps, or 450 km, and 16 pit stops with the combined total across the field of 9135 laps and 560 pit stops throughout the 8 hours of racing.

One of the other advantages of endurance racing is that competitors can share the cost between a number of team-mates.
