Cacciavillani Sets Sights On Senior Championship

press release

cory cacciavillaniAfter turning sixteen in March, and earning his beginners permit to drive on Ontario’s roads, Cory Cacciavillani will advance up to the final step of the age ladder in karting. He will begin his freshman year in both the Senior Medium and Senior TaG classes at his local Point Pelee Karting Club (PPKC), and has set his sights on both class championships. Adding in select special events in Ontario, Quebec and the USA and the CF Racing Team has a full schedule of events to compete in during the 2010-racing season.

Cacciavillani dominated his final year of Junior competition at PPKC, winning both the Jr. Heavy and Jr. TaG class championships in fine fashion. Nearly going unbeaten, he only lost one race the entire season in both classes combined! Add in the four ‘Ontario Grand National Bears’ he won and the two vice-championship trophies he earned at the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship (BSRKC), and to say he had a great season could be an understatement. This young racer displayed the maturity of a veteran racer, and is all but ready to make the transition into Senior competition.

“Last year was great, we had a lot of fun, won some big races and met most of our goals,” commented Cacciavillani from his Leamington area home. “I am very excited to move up, as I always enjoy a challenge. I know its not going to be easy, but we’re going to give it our best effort and hope to come out on top.”

To keep in shape during the long off-season, the team traveled south to contend in the annual Florida Winter Tour Rotax Max challenge. With events in Orlando, West Palm Beach and Ocala, Cacciavillani competed in his final three races as a Junior, but a mix of bad luck and engine woes held him back from showing his true potential against the International crowd.

“The competition in Florida this year was phenomenal, similar to Las Vegas (SKUSA SuperNationals), but it always seemed like we were in the wrong place at the wrong time,” continued Cacciavillani. “Everytime we would make ground towards the front, an unavoidable accident or something would force us to start all over again. We just couldn’t catch a break.”

Along with their assault on the PPKC championships, the CF Racing Team has plans to contend in the new Ontario-Quebec based Eastern Canadian Karting Championship in Senior Honda and Rotax-Max DD2. This four event series has events at two Greater Toronto Area facilities: Goodwood Kartways and Mosport International Karting, then travels east to Quebec for events at SRA Karting in St-Roch, and a special finale on the streets of Trois Rivieres. The team also plans to race select Ontario BSRKC races, as well as a couple events across the US border in New Castle, Indiana and Rock Island, Illinois.

Cacciavillani will once again be teamed up this year with long time friend and tuner J.P. Frycrychowicz. The two have developed an excellent driver-tuner relationship and are always confident in the decisions they make. Frydrychowicz, a past racer himself, has been with the team as a driver coach and mechanic now for four seasons and is primed up to start the 2010 season. “It has been a very long off-season this year, and I can’t wait to get back to the track,” commented Frydrychowicz. “With Cory competing in the (Rotax) DD2 class, there should be some very interesting challenges, but I’m sure we will be fine.”

In 2010, Cacciavillani will also work toward acquiring his car-racing license. He will do so at the Mosport Racing Academy just east or Toronto in June. After testing with Team Autotecnica in a Formula BMW single seater car last year, the team plans to enter a select few SCCA races in the USA to earn more seat time in open-wheel cars as he works towards his transition from karts to cars.

The 2010 racing season will officially start at Point Pelee Karting on April 25 for the opening round of the PPKC club championship. Cory Cacciavillani and the CF Racing Team are supported by: J3 Competition, CF Groups, Paramount Power Systems, T.J. Hill, JD Racing, The Pritchard Group and Autosports Media Group.
