Combined's ANZAC Meeting

from Russell Grimson

An Anzac commemoration race meeting was held at Combined District Kart facility on the weekend of 17 and 18 of April at Lithgow City Kart Raceway. The meeting was a great success with over 200 entries over the two days and participants raced in champagne weather; fine warm and enjoyable.

The weekend commenced with the light classes racing on Saturday with 6 classes ranging from Midgets to Clubman Light. Racing was fast, clean and exciting to watch. Outstanding performances were from Darcy Kondopirakis, Jasmine Borg and Joshua Carr.

After racing, the club put on a great meal and a number stayed on to enjoy their company. A great night was enjoyed by all who stayed.

Day 2

Sunday dawned with a fine a crisp morning and at drivers briefing a short but moving ceremony was held to mark our respect for our Anzacs. It was very moving for throughout the ceremony there was total silence across the facility.

After the briefing we got down to the business of kart racing and numbers were very strong in all classes and racing was fast and furious with no incidents but again some performances were outstating from several drivers including veteran drivers from the early nineties, including Simon Meyer and Michael Hazelton whom competed in the first round of the original Premier State Cup held in January 1994. Other outstanding performances included a great effort from CDKC member Ben Piper and fine performance from Anthony Borg, John Horsburgh and series coordinator of the Over 40’S National class series Iain Thornton.

At the trophy presentation the raffle held in conjunction with the Ladies Race meeting was drawn, the winner being Mrs Heather James of Cashmere in QLD. Second prize a TV; Alan Barsa of Bass Hill NSW. Third prize
A Naviman; Stuart Taylor from Sydney.

The organizing committee would like to thank everybody who helped with ticket sales well done.
