Return to Form for 250 National Class

press release

After a near all-time low for the 250 National class in 2009, the class has rebounded strongly in 2010 and will arrive at Phillip Island to compete for their own Australian Championship as part of the Australian Superkart Championship at round three of the Shannons Nationals Motor Racing Championships.

The entry is led by a strong local contingent with the best of 2008's teams rejoining those who raced in 2009.

"I'm thrilled there's been a resurgance of number in the class, both in quality karts and drivers coming to Phillip Island," said David Yuill. Yuill, the best performed driver of last season has been preparing for his greatest challenge yet in the class. The Crispy Racing / Aardvark Polishing Anderson-Yamaha has been racing on both side of the Murray River.

"I've raced in all the Victorian Superkart Club rounds and had a trip to Wakefield Park. It's been hard to get a feel for the competition with lack of 250 Nationals to race against."

"The greatest competition will come from Marty Latta who has the latest Anderson-Honda package from Viper Racing in the UK, Wayne Sprostan and Mathew Palmer has been getting close recently. There will be some close fought racing."

In addition to Yuill and Latta's MJR Bricklaying/Viper Racing UK Anderson, competition will come from Mathhew Palmer's two kart team of himself and emerging young gun Brendan Luneman. Luke May will make a return to Superkart racing, stepping into Chris Jewell's Zip Eagle while Jewell is absent on business interstate. New Zealand racer Wayne Sprostan has crossed the Tasman Sea, with Frank Giglio travelling from New South Wales. Queenslanders Barry Kunowski and Bob Fullerton, both new to 250 Nationals, and Victorian Brett Campbell complete the class.

250 National Superkarts are one of three Superkart Classes competing amongst a 47 driver entry at Phillip Island, utilising a single cylinder 250cc engine. While not as powerful as the twin cylinder Superkarts of the 250 International class they are lighter and their engines and accelerate quickly with torque being a feature of this engine configuration.
