Superkart Nationals - Last Corner Pass Wins Race 3 For Hossack

from Mark Jones

Trevor Roberts led for much of race 3 on a drying track at the Dunlop Australian Superkart Championship but heading into MG corner for the final lap a half loose allowed Darren Hossack to pounce and the 2008 Australian Champion lead the race for only one corner, the last one.

Gary Pegoraro powered through the field after stumbling on the warm-up laps to claim third position with Sama Zavaglia similarly recovering after a disappointing weekend for the reigning champion. Ilya Harpas continued a brilliant recovery by the young South Australian driver to finish in fifth position ahead of Kristian Stebbing finally putting a chassis problem behind him for a sixth place finish.

Warren McIlveen lost power in the early running but hung on to seventh position while Anton Stevens and Chryss Jamieson started well on wet weather tyres but faded rapid as the track dried to finish eighth and ninth position. Stevens in particular had a terrific start which almost ended where it began as a closing gap between the two front row karts he out-launched became a sidepod banging affair, but all karts continued. Jason Smith climbed back into the top ten after failing to finish race 2.

Martin Latta climbed back into the win in the 250 National class ahead of Luke May and Wayne Sprostan.

125cc class saw a third different race winner with Anthony Lappas leading Steven Tamasi to the line with Jeff Reed back in third position.

Race Four will start at 2:00pm with a bonus five point on offer for each position as round three of the Shannons National Motor Racing Championships come to a close.
