The youngster had shown tremendous speed and determination straight up out of the trailer on Friday during practice.  He quickly asserted himself as a contender for the weekend’s events by qualifying on Pole Position Saturday morning, setting a new 34.681 second lap track record at the venue for the Junior National Heavy Class along the way.

His determination was definitely shining through, with a convincing 2.19 second win and a very close second place in Heat racing Saturday afternoon.  This set him up for a front row start in Sunday’s 12 lap Pre Final.
Not wanting to squander the hard work that he and his father Michael had already put in for the weekend, 12yo Mitchell drove a level headed race to put himself right at the head of the pack when it counted most and took the chequered flag for yet another win.

Nervously Mitchell’s mother Maree and Sister Mikayla watched on with family and friends as Mitchell diced with the other drivers in Sunday afternoon’s Final.  After 15 laps of constant lead swapping, Mitchell emerged victorious ahead of fellow drivers Dale Corbett, Brock Plumb, Mitchell Kennedy and Benjamin Harm in the Singhs Ballina - Italo Australian Club Feature Race.

“It’s great to see Mitchell driving so confidently.  He really likes the Lismore track and we were quietly confident that he would do well here this weekend,” said Team Manager, Craig Doyle.  “Michael (Mitchell’s father) works tremendously hard away from the track and Mitchell has terrific support for his racing from his entire family.

The win today is clearly a product of that hard work, great support, good driving and some terrific determination by Mitchell.  We look forward hopefully to backing up this result in a couple of months at the inaugural Cooloola Junior Gold Titles at Gympie.  We’d certainly like some more of these coloured plates on the wall.”

Mitchell and fellow Doyle’s Racing Kartsport Junior National Light Team driver Callum Walker head next to Willowbank, Ipswich this weekend 7th – 9th May, 2010, to contest Round 2 of the Junior National East Coast Titles supported by Yamaha, a development category in the national 2010 CIK Stars of Karting Series.
