Schumacher Denies Kart Racing Too Dangerous

Michael Schumacher has defended his decision to race karts last weekend. The 41-year old took part in a DMV championship race at the Oppenrod circuit in Germany on the off weekend between the Monaco and this weekend's Turkish GP.

'The Schu' played down suggestions from German publication Auto Motor und Sport that he was risking injury by going kart racing.

"There are a few sports that are more dangerous than Formula One," he said, "but karting I would consider more on the safe side."

"What you learn here is not much help (for F1), but you can do quite a lot of overtaking" said the German.

"The fun aspect is the most important. That's really the only reason I do it."
