Shakedown Before Qld State Titles

AKA press release

With the Queensland State Karting Championships to be held in Mackay only a few weeks away, many competitors will be travelling to the region to gain valuable track time at this weekend’s final shakedown meeting.

Local driver Mark Muscat will be one such driver who will be taking to the track this weekend to fine-tune his set-up for the upcoming Championships.

Muscat (above), who has been racing karts for over ten years, qualified fastest in last year’s Queensland Championships held in Gympie before finishing sixth. This year, he is aiming for the podium.

“Last year I had a great start to the weekend but couldn’t quite get there in the end, I had speed but just missed the set-up a bit when the finals came around,” said Muscat.

“By learning from that I’ll be spending this weekend’s ‘shakedown’ event more as a test session than anything else. It’s all about fine-tuning the engine and chassis to make sure you adapt to the changing conditions.”

While the championships will be held at his home track Muscat is not relying on home track advantage to get him over the line in his Haber Racing Arrow kart.

“For sure I know a lot about the track and it’s characteristics but the surface doesn’t normally have the amount of grip that will be generated from the hundreds of competitors doing the laps that they will at the championships,” said Muscat.

“It is these changing track conditions that we will be trying to simulate this weekend and working more on the kart about how it will react in different situations and varying track conditions.”

Racing will begin this weekend from 1pm on Saturday and 9am on Sunday with the State Championships to be held at the venue located on Bells Road, Palmyra on July 2-4.
