Big Fields for Queensland Karting Championships

In excess of 300 entries have been received for the Queensland Karting State Championships sponsored by Dunlop Kartsport to be hosted by the Mackay Kart Club on the first weekend in July (July 2-4).
With a track capacity of 30 karts, two of the 16 classes are oversubscribed – Junior National Light and Clubman Heavy – where the racing will be intense throughout the field.
Dual National Champion Joseph Mawson will lead the interstate invasion. Mawson, who hails from Sydney, captured both the Junior National Light and Junior Clubman crowns earlier this year and will proudly display the green and gold number one plate at the championships.

“This will be my first time at Mackay and I’m really looking forward to it,” said Mawson.
“Being Australian Champion means that there is a bit of pressure on you because you are expected to win but on the other side of the coin you know you can do it, so you’re not as desperate to win.
“From what I’ve heard the track surface will create some very interesting racing, the fields are very strong and it should be a good weekend.”
Over the next couple of weeks the committee of the Mackay Kart Club will be working tirelessly to ensure that the venue will be in pristine condition for the interstate invasion.
Competitors will begin to arrive in the Mackay region next weekend before several days practice ahead of qualifying on July 2. The heat races will be contested on Saturday July 3 with the championship finals on Sunday July 4.
