McBride Off To Race In Germany

press release

Defending CIK Stars of Karting Series Pro Light (KF1) Champion Hayden McBride will jet out of Australia on Sunday to compete in a round of the German Championships at the Amfing circuit next weekend.

The Novocastrian earned the trip courtesy of his victory in last year’s Australian championship and he has sights set on a top five result in the 32-driver field.

“It is going to be a great experience,” said McBride. “I’ve raced in Germany before when I contested the 2007 European Rotax Series and really enjoyed my time over there, so it is great to get the opportunity to get back over there.

“I’ll be racing with the Gillard team (the same chassis that McBride campaigns in Australia), so I know the chassis quite well and I’m aiming for a top five finish at the end of the weekend.”

With the minimum weight of the KF2 category that McBride at next weekend’s event some nine kilograms lighter than he is accustomed to here in Australia he has been on a fitness and weight loss campaign over the past few weeks.

“Prior to the start of this year’s championship I worked pretty hard on my fitness but I didn’t really look at losing weight because my weight is fine for here in Australia, but that has all changed over the past few weeks” said McBride.

“With the minimum weight over in Germany almost ten kilos lighter than here I’ve been working pretty hard on trimming down because every bit of weight counts – especially when the kart will be heavier because front brakes are required to be used.”

McBride’s next appearance on Australian shores will be during the final round of the 2010 CIK Stars of Karting Series to be held at Melbourne’s Todd Road circuit hosted by the Go-Kart Club of Victoria on August 7/8.

Entering next month’s final round of the four-round series McBride is second in the championship standings behind Queenslander Cian Fothergill with a slim chance of snaring back-to-back titles.
