Ontario Arrow Team Suits-Up Multi-Time Canadian Champion

press release

Sudbury Ontario’s Durkac Karting recently traveled south to compete in round four of the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship held at Point Pelee Karting, in Leamington. Headed by team owner Steve Durkac, the team welcomed a very special addition for the weekend’s event as multi-time Canadian Champion Aaron de Heus returned to the cockpit of a go-kart with the support of Durkac Karting along with Monster Motors and Carl Prescott. Four other team members would join de Heus for the weekend in Leamington as Andrew Prescott, Steve Durkac and Tyler and Dylan Brady took the track.

“It was a great honour to have Aaron drive for us this weekend,” commented Durkac following the event. “He’s a 7-time Canadian National Champion and it’s not hard to see that. He is very professional on and off the track, and a very well respected competitor.”

Not wasting any time getting up to speed, de Heus adapted quite easily to the Arrow chassis, provided by Carl Prescott, powered by Monster Performance and fitted with the new ThorBrake system. After an afternoon of testing on Thursday and some evening testing on Friday, de Heus and the Durkac Karting team were ready for action.

In Qualifying, de Heus was quickly up to speed, and posted his flier on lap three, good enough for third place, less that one-tenth of a second from the pole-position. Jumping to the lead early in the pre-final, de Heus led from lap two to lap ten, settling into second place and a front row starting position for the final. Another great start in the final vaulted him to the lead as the field rounded lap one. Leading a multi-kart train down the front stretch, de Heus was in control. However, he would surrender the lead on lap four, eventually falling to third place at the checkered flag. He was however elevated to second place at the podium ceremony, with a penalty being handed to the second place finisher, capping off a great day, and a great return to the seat of a go-kart.

"It was a fantastic weekend for me aboard the Durkac Karting/Monster Performance powered ARROW 4S package,” commented de Heus following the race. “Once we made a few handling adjustments to the chassis I was confidently in the top three on the time charts all weekend.  The ARROW 4S was very strong all the way through from qualifying to the last lap of the final.  I was thrilled to be able to work with such an enthusiastic group."

Continuing, "to be able to work alongside with Steve Durkac of Durkac Karting was truly something special for me, Steve has been a karting pioneer of sorts in his hometown of Sudbury helping to start up the Sudbury kart club in its early days.  He is now importing new talent from up north and helping them share in a great racing community.  A young driver like Andrew Prescott is very fortunate to have the kind of support that this team has to offer."

Team owner Steve Durkac also had a successful weekend in Leamington, driving home with a solid fifth place finish in the Master’s class. Andrew Prescott was about to post an eleventh place finish in the super competitive Jr. Heavy class, while Tyler and Dylan Brady battled through some tough luck in Leamington, and are already looking forward to their next race.

“I really enjoyed going to Leamington, the track is very fast, and the racing this weekend was great,” continued Durkac.

Up next, the team prepares for the annual Ontario Grand National Bear Hunt, held at Shannonville Motorsports Park on July 28 to August 1. Durkac Karting will be in full force, with another great lineup of team drivers.
