McIlveen Stunning In First Qual Session

Warren McIlveen set early notice of his intent at the Rockpress Australian Superkart Championship, setting a time of 1:13.7575 in the 15 minute session, some 1.2 seconds faster than his team mate, Sam Zavaglia. The Mac's Marine/Soundys Retravision Stockman-Honda has looked fast all weekend, the the size of the gap over the field has caught the pack by surprise.

Not counting McIlveen, the field is very close. Behind Zavaglia in the SZR Stockman-Honda, just tenths separate the next five karts. Darren Hossack in four tenths slower in the Safe Evolutions Anderson-Safe. Young Queensland pair Russell Jamieson (Coach Design Stockman-Honda) and Jason Smith (Fuji Xerox/Middletons Printing Anderson-FPE) is separated by thousandths of a second, a tenth behind Hossack. Ilya Harpas in the Internode/Davtec Zip-BRC is just a tenth further away with Kristian Stebbing (Suburban Accounting Stockman-Honda).

Gary Pegoraro (Dunlop BRC Engines Anderson-BRC) spun off track at turn three losing half the session and ended eighth fastest. Chryss Jamieson (Coach Design Anderson-Honda) and Jason Laker (Top Torque Stockman-Honda) complete the top ten.

In contract to 250 International, 250 National could not be closer. Martin Latta (Viper Racing UK/MJR Bricklaying Anderson-Honda) is just two hundredths faster than Luke May (Marron Excavations Stockman-Yamaha). The pair who are fighting over the reborn 250 National Championship are two seconds faster than Brendan Luneman (STR Truck Bodies Anderson-Yamaha). Paul Snaith's Eliminator-Honda is fourth fastest ahead of Anton Stevens.

Stevens, who suffered an engine failure in the www.artmotorsport.com.au PVP-FPE, has climbed aboard the spare third kart of the STR Truck Bodies team. The team brought the car here for a potential sale, but Stevens is now faster in the team's Stockman-Kawasaki than tem boss Matt Palmer in his Anderson-Yamaha.

Steven Tamasi is dominating the 125cc class, 1.7 seconds faster in the Domain Prestige Homes Stockman-Honda than Jeff Reed (Cycle City Stockman-Honda). Series points leader Darren Dunn (Broadbent Compressor Services Topkart-Honda) is third fastest ahead of closely match pair, Brad Stebbing (Suburban Accounting Stockman-Yamaha) and Tim Philp (Floth Engineering Avoig-Honda). Son and father team Lindsay and Drene Jamieson are next in their Linra Properties Group Stockman-Hondas.
