Burkett Racing Grab Western Canadian Challenge

press release

Burkett Racing Enterprises of Winnipeg, Manitoba, the exclusive Canadian distributor of Hole Shot Drive Systems and dealer for the Arrow chassis, wrapped up the 2010 Western Canadian Challenge at Stratotech Raceway located 30 minutes north of Edmonton, AB.

The third year karting team has been growing over the past 12-months and looks to keep that pace going through the end of 2010. Leading the team on track was Daniel Burkett who made the move Rotax Senior Max just prior to the opening round in Chilliwack, BC.

After six hard fought rounds, Burkett would end up nicely inside the top ten in his freshman year in senior. Landing in eighth spot in the finally points tally, just one of out of seventh and four out of sixth, gives Burkett some great momentum as he looks to end off the 2010 season on high note.

In round five action of the final weekend of racing in the WCC Burkett would run well all day he worked the ultra fast speeds of the 1.3 km flowing track to take ninth spot in the final to grab a top ten finish. In Sunday final round action Burkett struggled a bit with pace as the team tried to work a different setup program. At the line the rookie senior driver worked his way forward to take 12th spot at the checkered flag. With a solid run in the final weekend, keeping the kart out of trouble and on track would ensure Burkett stayed inside the top ten in final championship points standings, a great accomplishment for the first year senior driver.

“I’d say overall we are pretty happy with the WCC season,” comments BRE owner Murray Burkett.  “The decision to go Senior was last minute and I think it was definitely the right decision for us.”

The Glover Brothers Racing team in partnership with BRE proved trackside support to a host of drivers through out the 2010 WCC campaign. Kevin Glover, Daniel's coach, was a major influence and help through out the season as the young driver came to grips with the closer and stiffer competition in the senior ranks.

“Daniel did really well for his first year in senior,” smiles GBR owner Kevin Glover. “He stayed right in the action and never got himself in trouble. I think the senior guys really respected him for that.”

On the business front BRE continues to expand their dealer network for the Arrow chassis and the Hole Shot Drive Systems line of products. BRE has been looking at new products lines and evaluating new opportunities.

Burkett headed off to Tremblant last weekend for the Coupe de Montreal and Eastern Canadian Karting Championship races with support from SRA Karting of St. Roch, Quebec. BRE will be at the AS Canada FIA Canadian National Karting Championships with Glover Brothers Racing as they make the trip together.

“I am very excited about running at the Nationals this year,” comments Burkett. “The track at Tremblant is amazing and as you see by the results the Arrow chassis runs well there.”

While Daniel Burkett worked the new track in Quebec, Dana Burkett was back in the seat as she ran in the Manitoba Karting Association event. Dana was very quick at race seven of the MKA schedule and was showing enough speed to finish in the top 3, however a small mechanical problem with caused her to lose power intermittently. Despite the mechanical gremlin, the talent teenager finished in the fifth spot in the final. Dana showed great resolve and has proven herself this season as contender in the Honda 6.5 class.

Along with the Hole Shot Drive Systems program, Burkett is also working closely with the Bull Dog line of split sprockets and engine mounts for four-cycle competition. Working with both the two-cycle and four-cycle classes is important to Burkett Racing as they look to build new customers from the grass roots of karting to national programs.
