Huge Entry For WA State Championships

press release

The 2010 KTEQ Western Australian State Karting Championships is gearing up to be the biggest event in the state for many years with in excess of 330 competitors lining up for the prestigious event next month (October 1-3).

The championships, to be used by many drivers as a warm-up for next year’s national championships to be held at the Cockburn venue, will not only see Western Australia’s best drivers in action but also competitors from all across the country.

“Everyone at the club has been working tirelessly to get the track and surroundings in order, we’re delighted to see so many karters from all over the place coming to compete at the event,” said Tiger Kart Club President John Wishart.

“With the national championships just around the corner (next Easter), many people are using next month’s event to get some valuable practice ahead of the country’s biggest event in 2011.

“Along with the regular karters we also have a lot of former racers who have come back to the sport to have a shot at winning a state or national championship to put on their resumes.”

With competitors ranging in age from seven to well over 40 years of age in the sport, there will be over a dozen categories being contested to cater for a variety of ages, weights and engine capacities.

Two drivers at the youngest end of the field are Brock Kenny and Jake Kostecki who will compete in the Midgets category. Kenny has just returned from competing at the Junior Sprint Classic in Victoria and armed with a new European-made Tony Kart Chassis is looking forward to a good showing at next month’s championships.

Another young driver who has been impressive over the past few months has been Scott Foster. He is the son of former Australian karting champion, Kip and will line up alongside the likes of defending state champion Jake Klarich and Brodie Kostecki in the Junior National Light and Junior Clubman categories.

Qualifying for the event will be held on Friday October 1 ahead of the heat races on Saturday October 2 and the championship finals will be contested on Sunday October 3.
