Locsmandi Wins German Gold Cup

As the season’s racing draws to a close in Central Europe, Intrepid Force Rotax Junior Max driver Stefan Locsmandi has taken yet another season title to be the 2010 German Goldpokal winner, making this two years in a row that the Austrian team has succeeded in the conquest for the coveted Gold Cup.
The final round of the German DMV Championship was combined with this traditional premier karting event that attracted an impressive 130 entries to the Liedolsheim circuit located not far from the French border. The 1060 metre track established back in 1963, is an international complex in Western Germany that has hosted as many as 15 European Championships as well as the World Championships in previous years.
Locsmandi was fastest on track from the beginning of the free practice sessions Friday, taking pole position for IFR in official timed practice, after rain showers earlier in the day had eased. The 14-year old who lives near Vienna, Austria, remained undefeated in both races Sunday where he also set the best lap of each final to finish with a convincing victory and take the chequered flag almost 6 seconds ahead of his closest rival.
“It was really a perfect weekend for me,” declared Locsmandi. “The racing was really good and I had a perfect kart.” Obviously very satisfied with his success to date this year, he added “To win the Goldpokal in Germany is a great way to make it four titles for me already in 2010. This year in my first season with IFR I’ve really learnt a lot which has helped me do well, especially understanding more about the kart itself.”
It was the perfect way to follow-up on his win at the deciding round of the Rotax Max Challenge series, where the IFR driver claimed the Austrian RMC title and a ticket to the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in November. Adding to the Central European Zone Karting Trophy and the Austrian Championship, Locsmandi has had some excellent results racing with the team, in this his last season before moving up to Senior Max.

With a short break now in his race program, he will join a rather international line-up when IFR attends the inaugural Rotax International Open in Spain at the end of October, with drivers competing in the Salzburg-based team not only from Austria, but also from Canada, Germany, Hungary, Japan, the Netherlands and Russia. The next race on the agenda for the team is the White-Blue Karting Trophy this weekend at Ampfing.
