Kiwi Track Extension Back On Track

A unseasonable snow storm in Invercargill last month put a temporary halt to work on KartSport Southland's track upgrade. The club informed KartSportNews that the contractor is now back at the site and making up for lost time.

"The heavy snow and wet weather certainly held us back" said spokesperson Daryl Shuttleworth. "SouthRoads (the contractor) were back on the job last Thursday and are progressing well. The new track has been cut out, the majority of the packing has been done and with plenty of fine weather forecast, the track should be up and running in no time.

"The main straight looks quiet daunting but exciting with the extra metres in it, and the new corners should really mix up the action."

As part of the track upgrade - which the country's top karters will get to sample when they travel to Invercargill next Easter for the 2010 Sprint Nationals meeting - the club is extending the main straight from 80 to 135 metres and creating two new corners. The pit wall has also been moved back 10 metres and the pit area increased in size. Plans are currently being finalized for new clubrooms and deck closer to the track.
