Arrow Drivers Reign Supreme at NSW State Championships

press release

The annual New South Wales State Championships were held on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of October at the Tamworth Kart Club. It was the first state title held at the venue since 1994 and that didn’t trouble Arrow Racing Karts drivers as they dominated the event amassing a staggering eight class wins out of fourteen.

Darsey Kondopirakis put in a stellar performance to claim the win in both Senior National Light and Senior National Heavy. The 2009 Junior National Heavy Australian Champion put in one of the performances of the weekend by not losing a race in either class, but was pushed the whole way in difficult conditions by former Australian Champion Arrow driver Matthew Waters in Senior National Light. It was again a fellow Arrow driver who filled the second place on the podium in Senior National Heavy with Nicholas Allen charging from the fifth row of the grid to secure his maiden State Championship podium.

Joey Mawson claimed Arrow Karts’ second double championship with wins in Junior Clubman and Junior Max. The current Australian Champion had to use every ounce of skill to overcome fellow Arrow driver Todd Hazelwood in the final of Junior Clubman as rain descended onto the Tamworth circuit. With half the drivers on wets, and the other half on slicks, the two Arrow drivers showed why they are regarded as two of the best in the business excelling in tough conditions.

Hazelwood went one better in the final of Junior National Heavy maintaining a comfortable lead until the chequered flag showing the dominance the X1 28N kart has been in the Junior National Heavy category this year.

Mawson’s Junior Max victory was in dry conditions, but that didn’t stop the NSW teenager as he edged clear from the start to maintain that lead until the end. Macauley Jones drove his Arrow X1 30 to third position in the final to continue his consistent year which has also netted him a podium position at the Australian Titles earlier in the year.

The Rookies class was won by Jayden Ojeda who claimed his first NSW State Championship in convincing fashion. The young Arrow driver showed maturity beyond his years to drive a smart race and control it from the front.

David Sera claimed Arrow’s third double win for the weekend this time in Clubman Light and Rotax Light. Sera qualified fastest in both classes and after mixed heat results prevailed in the final to claim commanding victories. Thomas Phillips was the hard charger in the final of Clubman Light coming from 11th position to take the final spot on the podium.

Long time Arrow supporter Daniel Stein continued his recent success with a gallant second place finish in Leopard Heavy. Also amongst the place getters was Nigel Stones in Clubman Super Heavy who finished the meeting in third position.

Overall it was a hugely successful event for Arrow Racing Karts. Winning 8 of the 14 classes confirms Arrow position as the benchmark in Australian karting at every level.
