Brits Target EasyKart World Final

press release

TWENTY NINE drivers from the Easykart UK series have qualified for this weekend’s World Finals at the Pista Sette Laghi, thirty miles south of Milan.

This is the largest squad the British series has fielded at the annual gathering of the many international franchises from across the world. Apart from the UK, Venezuela is also sending a large contingent to Italy. The Italians will naturally hold the upper hand, but the British team is rich in talent.

In Cadet, Easykart Driver Programme members Ronan McKenzie and William Stowell raced at Castelletto last July and will definitely put their experience to good use. E-Plate champion Jordan Sanders also qualified for last year’s World Finals at Siena, and will reasonably be expected to play a strong role this weekend.

Junior front-runner James DeHavillande joined Stowell and McKenzie at the round of the Italian Easykart series by virtue of also being on the EDP, and thoroughly impressed Birel’s management. Of the Brits, he is arguably the favourite to do well, but don’t discount 2010 champion Toby Sowery or Thomas Grainger. Both are extremely quick and very capable racers.

Although he missed the cut to qualify last time around, Elliot Rice will be fired-up and out to prove a point. The 2009 E-Plate winner and now 2010 Light Champion will relish his first opportunity to perform on the world stage. According to his Facebook page, Owen Jenman’s focus is solely on the top step of the podium come Sunday. His compatriots will push him hard all the way. Last year, Jack Sales took a brilliant 5th - he could well do even better this time around. Kieran McCullough (our highest finisher in 2009 with 4th) was a joy to watch last year in the Heavy category, and with Sam Dimelow and Joe Paterson in the mix this trio will surely provide the spectators with some spectacular, ‘muscular’ racing.

The only English driver to have a nickname in Italy is Barnaby Pittingale. ‘Il Dominator’ won in Heavy at Cervia in 2007 and would score an historic treble if he can add the World title to his UK and Euro crowns. Mark Lawrence and Tim Hill return to the Finals for the third time and on the evidence of the way they have driven throughout this season, will surely enjoy their best results yet.
