Final Round, Wollongong Triple Challenge

press release

“Show me the money" was the topic of the day at Wollongong’s Final round of the WGE Triple Challenge on October 17. With many drivers splitting hairs as to who could go home with the cash prizes, the day’s racing was close all day and many an upset came to light.

Brett Cowley, Kyle Sandona & Homebush Kart’s Daniel Smith tussled for the lead in Tag Restricted Medium, with Brett finishing on top. A much depleted Rookie class had Andrew Kahl clean sweep the day with first place in all five races.

Junior National Heavy was won by Michael Saller who backed up after a major crash in his speedway car at Parramatta Speedway the Night before, followed by James Taylor 2nd and Nick Lichtenberger 3rd.

Mick Robson stepped up and displayed to the Rotax Light field how to win races, with runaway wins all day. Lee Adams and Enzo Mendicino finishes 2nd & 3rd. Karting World’s Adam Hunter pitched a brand new Track Warrior against the guys and finished a close forth.

Senior National Light Title holder Darcy Kondopirakis held out Paul Hodges and Alex Henry to win the day. Joseph Cooley took out Senior National Heavy combining with the light guys to keep them honest.

Clubman Heavy saw Adam Hunter again carrying the Karting World flag to the podium finishing 1st with Domenic Marciano & Michael Grantham 2nd & 3rd behind him.

With Luke Spinley leading the way in Jmax, James Taylor was busy fielding attacks by the Junior Clubman guys to finish 2nd. The main attackers in Junior Clubman were Josh Seiffert, Kyle Jackson & Nick Lichtenberger finishing 1st 2nd & 3rd respectively. Ben Stellino & Nick Cooley DNF’d the final after being consistently 2nd & 3rd all day.

Junior National Light was hotting up from the start with Jordan Zammit having a DNF in the first heat. Being the competitor he is Jordan then went on to win each and every race following. James Abela & Anthony Gamauf came home 2nd & 3rd.

HDT sponsored local Cody Gillis looked like he had met his match with the Midget lead chopping and changing all day. Cody finished the day with a win in the final closely followed by fellow Wollongong driver Nathan Rourke in 2nd and Jessie Attard 3rd.

Its was a whitewash with Canberra’s Warren White dominating the Clubman Light field, even though Jai Robson and Alex Henry tried in vain to pick him, Warren just proved too good on the day.

With the old guard of Jeff Tresidder & Homebush Kart’s Vic Roy watching from the back Tag Medium became a hotly contested class. Domenic Marciano finished 1st with Matt Ferraro 2nd. Mathew Nipperess & Matt Stacey swapped positions for 3rd all the way to the end with Stacey nailing it in the end.

Wollongong Kart Club would like to thank all the drivers who supported the Triple Challenge and particularly WGE for being the sponsor.
