From Vegas To Monarto for Mawson

AKA press release

Current Australian champion Joseph Mawson will jet back into Australia tomorrow (Tuesday) direct from America to begin preparations for this weekend’s Dunlop South Australian Karting Championships to be held at the Monarto Karting Complex near Murray Bridge.

Mawson, who last weekend competed against some of the world’s best young drivers at the 14th Annual SuperNationals in Las Vegas, heads to South Australia in search of his tenth state championship.

“Last weekend is an amazing experience, a real eye opener but now my focus is really on this weekend at Monarto,” said Mawson.

“I got a bit of jet lag when I got to America so hopefully that doesn’t kick in later this week when I’m back in Australia.”

The 14 year-old will be competing in the fastest two junior categories, 100cc Junior Clubman and 125cc Formula JMA, at this weekend’s event where he will come up against the best young drivers from various parts of the country.

Leading the charge for the local drivers against Mawson will be Todd Hazelwood and Simon Hodge – both of whom have taken the challenge right up to the Sydneysider at several major events throughout 2010.

“The local guys like Todd (Hazelwood) and Simon (Hodge) will be tough, they know the track quite well where as most of us interstaters have never been there,” said Mawson.

“There is also a heap of Victorian guys like Anton dePasquale, who won last weekend in Tasmania, Bradley Jenner and Jordan Nicolaou who will also be pretty hard to beat.

“All in all I’m really looking forward to getting there.”

Drivers and teams will begin arriving tomorrow in preparations for Wednesday and Thursday’s practice sessions ahead of qualifying on Friday. The heat races will be contested on Saturday ahead of the championship finals on Sunday.

This is the first time that the Monarto Karting Complex, through the Dublin go-kart Club, has played host to the State Championships, with close to 250 competitors set to line up across the 14 categories.

The Monarto Karting Complex is located on the Old Princess Highway, Monarto.
