20th Season Of Racing Done & Dusted

press release

The dust is only just settling on what has been a fantastic 20th season for the NSWSKC.

Last Sunday the club completed round 8 to finish the season and it was a great days racing with 70 karts on track displaying some hard, fast, close racing.

Then, once the racing was done, families and friends stayed at the venue until early evening socialising and letting their hair down after the 10 month long season.

Leading into the race meeting many positions in the championship were up for grabs and the crowd that assembled to watch saw drivers driving as hard as they could to secure every point possible to add to their tally. How it all went will be unveiled at the end of season presentation dinner on the 12th December at which 300 people will be in attendance.

Results on the day were mixed and first on track was the Clubman Heavy class. Making a return after a couple of meetings off was Joel Rhind who took out wins in heats 2, 3 and the final. His clean sweep of the day was only stopped by a 1st heat win by Les Green. The final placings on the day  was 1st Joel Rhind, 2nd Tim Baker and 3rd Les Green.

Next on track was the Clubman Light class. Due to over subscription the class was split into 2 groups. In group A, Glen Philpott was dominant in the heats taking wins in all 3. Come Feature time it would be Matthew Pescod who would beat home the field to the flag. Placings in this group were 1st Glen Philpott, 2nd Nat Genner, 3rd Daniel Morris.

In group B the results were a little more mixed. Michael Jordan was the winner in heat 1 and took out the final, Jason Woodward  took out heat 2 and David Boyd went on to win heat 3. The final result for this group was 1st David Boyd, 2nd Jason Woodward, 3rd Alana Onley.

Once all the results were put together the final class placings were: 1st Glen Philpott, 2nd David Boyd, 3rd Jason Woodward.

The class to hit the track next was the KT Modified Heavy class. All year Cameron Coghlan has dominated the class and leading into this event had won 5 from 6 meetings; so all eyes were on him to see if he would complete the year on a high.

During the day 4 different drivers would greet the chequered flag in first place. Heat 1 James Robertson was victor, heat 2 saw John Watton drive away from the field, heat 3 Cameron Coghlan left the field in his dust and the feature was won by Wayne Baines.

Final placing for the class was equal 1st on points James Robertson and Cameron Coghlan, however using the count back system the win was awarded to James with Cameron second and John Watton 3rd.

The closest points chase of the season has been in the KT Modified Class and this final meeting would decide the seasons results. Lady racer Amy Stewart was the winner in heat 1, Daniel Gow found some form and took out heats 2 & 3 and Tim Beattie would win the final. Final placings on the day went 1st Tim Beattie, 2nd Amy Stewart and 3rd Peter Bourke.

A very spirited field of 8 Rookies hit the track next and displayed some very mature racing for their age (10>13). Andrew Beattie picked up heat wins in heat 1, 2 & 3. Only Luke Sayre would spoil a clean sweep for Andrew.
Final placings were 1st Andrew Beattie, 2nd Luke Sayre and 3rd Corey Foyle.

Formula 100 would tear up the track next and whilst the field was smaller than usual the racing was as hard as ever. Heat wins all went to Sean Mayo and Nathan Bailey would take out the feature race. Final placings went to 1st Nathan Bailey, 2nd Sean Mayo and 3rd Jonathon Bright.

There was one class left to run and it was the biggest on track field of the day.The Junior class had a field of 15 very talented racers and the racing was the best seen all year.

Heat wins went to Daniel Sayre in heat 1, heat 2 saw Ayden Elliott win and heat 3 and the final went to Nathan Camilleri. Going into the feature after some very good racing in the heats, Katelyn Hickey was 2nd on points to Nathan and was gridded to the back of the field with him and all eyes were going to be on this battle. Unfortunately, motorsport can be a tough game and Katelyn would have motor problems that put an end to her charge.

The  last race of the season saw a great drive by Nathan from the back of the field on a very fast track. It was fitting that a great race would bring a great season to an end.

The drivers all now have a 3 week wait to see who will take to top honours for the season at the presentation. The club is incorporating a 20 year anniversary reunion into the dinner and will be a full house as many former members and of course all the current members book their seat to what will be one of the best speedway presentation dinners seen.

The season has been a full and at times very busy one and the Executive of the NSWSKC would like to thank all their members and families, their Corporate partners, the multitude of volunteers who make the club run and of course the support of the speedway community who at each meeting are continuing to come out to Nepean to support tomorrows stars today .
