Mainlanders Snatch The Goods At Tasmanian Championships

AKA press release

Mainland visitors dominated the winner’s circle at the Raine & Horne Tasmanian Karting Championship hosted by the Southern Tasmania Kart Club just outside of Hobart last weekend.

Leading the trophy snare by the Victorian drivers was the Nicolaou brothers, Leigh and Jordan. Between them they took home two titles and a runner-up placing across three categories.

Leigh, the older of the siblings, won the Clubman Heavy category ahead of fellow Victorian Mitch Cuzens. Local driver Sam Harrington rounded out the podium, while his fellow Tasmanians Jeff Dickson and Zane Wyatt were unlucky not to snare a spot on the podium after crashing out on the final turn.

Young Jordan, who is the current National Champion in the Junior National Heavy category, continued his stellar year by adding another title to his name last weekend.

Nicolaou was followed home by Anton de Pasquale and Matthew McLellan to make it an all-Victorian podium while Dylan Angel was the quickest local driver but some bad luck kept him off the podium.

De Pasquale reversed the order in the Junior Clubman category when he broke through for his maiden state championship ahead of Nicolaou. After narrowly missing a podium finish in the Junior National Heavy category, Victorian Mason Thomas finished third. Gus Robins and Dillon van Galen also showed potential in the heat races but just couldn’t quite match the front-runners in the final.

In one of the races of the weekend rising star Jordan Ford snared the victory in the Clubman Light category over Tyler McDonald and local driver Nathan Zuj. The trio were joined by Jack Wynack, Nicholas Ellen and Jake Spencer at the front of the field where places were changing on a regular basis throughout the final.

Also claiming victories was Reece Sidebottom, who dominated the Rookies category, and Liam McLellan, who made a last lap pass on Brad Jenner to take the Junior National Light category.

Others to secure the win in their respective categories included Thomas Hughes (Midgets), Jackson Evans (Senior National Light), Ash Quiddington (Senior National Heavy), Phil Straughen (Clubman Super Heavy) and Jeremy Dyer (Super 200).

A notable mention must also go to Steve Crocker for winning his fifth consecutive Over 40s state championship.
