TEKA Grand Finale Goes Backwards

press release

Congratulations to Newcastle Kart Club for one of the best facilities and track layouts around, the AKA for their approval to run the event, the committee and Steve Ellis for making it happen and TEKA competitors for one of the best Endurance events possible!

Who would have though the reverse layout would flow every bit a well as the usual direction. Teams would start on neutral ground without any track data, possibly making various championship fights even closer.

The interesting ones were 2nd to 4th in Honda A grade with 7 ½ points separating Blatt Racing #49, Grumpy Mongrels #76 and Baby Bonus #17. In B grade the last spot on the podium was still definitely wide open with SIS #515 and #58 RAD Racing only 2 points apart and the hard charging Awesome Threesome #10 coming!

In the Briggs & Stratton class, which is set to expand with new entries in 2011, was pretty much determined without a catastrophic event between any of the top three.

The practice, qualifying and racing was some of the best we’ve experienced with a good feeling both on and off the track.

A couple of things worth mentioning! Welcome back to Evermil Racing after a long absence who don’t know how to do things by halves, turning up with two teams. Congratulations to George from Grey Ghost for putting together another great hire kart and team in Grey Ghost 3.

UniFilter, well done on a brilliant looking kart with a new livery, keep a lookout for their products.

Always good to see the racing Toynton bring when they make an appearance after missing a couple this year, and welcome Team Frog hope to see you guys back again. Exciting to see Dodgy Boyz make the move to the B & S Animal class for the first time after a major rebuild to prepare. Also on the B & S class great to see the return of Road Runner who are always up the front of the pack.

After 7.5 long hot hours of racing the final round and the Championship would be decided.

In Briggs & Stratton Kinetic Motorsport, Dynamite, and Buildline battled it out for hours followed by Sky and XLR8. In the end Kinetic and Dynamite would suffer mechanical failure (not engine) leaving to line honors to Buildline who deserved it pushing hard up the front all day!

In Honda A the battle throughout most of the race would be Blatt who were setting a relentless and consistent pace, Grumpy Mongrels, Baby Bonus (I’m sure it’s all gone now), Toynton and early in the race Focus. WAR not there through an early issue.

Awesome Threesome are such a standout for B grade they tend to compete for outright position. They dominated B grade, taking the win outright at the same time! To their credit Evermil and the young team Benchwarmers fought hard without issue for the duration enjoying some good racing eventually taking out 2nd and 3rd positions in B grade. JKR who were quick all day unlucky to miss the podium coming in 4th followed by Ice Tech and Grey Ghost 3 in only there 1st or 2nd race.

In A grade there were some late issues allowing the consistent and quick (although kart could do with a tidy up) Grumpy Mongrels in for a win! WAR fought back for a well deserved 2nd followed by GTS who are now a force with their second podium in as many races.

In terms of the Championship Winners check our website, they all deserve their wins in a hard fought series which returns everyone as much enjoyment.
