Vale: John "Crossy" Cross

from Roger Polak, Melbourne Kart Centre

It is with great sadness that we report the tragic passing of John 'Crossy' Cross. Crossy was only new to the sport of kart racing, but had had a stellar career in the tough world of powerboat racing. It was whilst competing in a boat race last weekend at Lake Mulwala that Crossy was involved in a high speed crash that ended his life.

Crossy was widely regarded as one of the best boat racers to ever hit the water and he carried that same enthusiasm for speed over to the sport of karting, where he competed in his first race in July this year. We're sure that had he been able to keep going in karting, the results would have come there too!

Although he was only involved in our sport briefly he was a welcome bloke at MKC and was a genuinely fun guy to have around.

I'm told that at power boat racing drivers' briefings Crossy would regularly chime in with the phrase "Yes Sir!" in response to the instuctions being given and I would have loved to see him try that out on some of the AKA officials too! I think Mondsy and crew would have seen the funny side and would also have enjoyed the fun spirit that Crossy brought to his racing.

We will miss you Crossy and rest assured you had  quite an impact on us here at MKC and on the members at Oakleigh Kart Club.

Rest in Peace.
