Ipswich Confirmed As Opener For CIK Stars of Karting

press release

Organisers of the CIK Stars of Karting Series have confirmed that the opening round of the 2011 championship will be held in Ipswich, Queensland.

Following the disastrous floods that hit South East Queensland two weeks ago the Ipswich, and wider Queensland, communities have been cleaning up and rebuilding their lives at a rapid rate.

The decision by the International Karting Committee (series organsiers) to hold the opening round of the series on the original scheduled date of February 26/27 at the Ipswich circuit has come following numerous hours of research regarding the rebuilding process.

“I’m sure I speak on behalf of all Australians when I say that the Queensland floods has moved us all but throughout it all the Australian spirit has shone brightly and from all reports repairs in the region are happening at a rapid rate,” said Series Co-ordinator Peter Galvin.

“After many phone calls to the Ipswich City Council, along with various people and business owners in the Ipswich region, the general consensus was the mass clean-up will see the region ‘almost’ back to normal within a few weeks.

“The accommodation houses we spoke to encouraged us to maintain our existing date, a sentiment that was echoed by the Mayor of Ipswich Paul Pisasale and Ipswich Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Michael Munt.”

Mayor Pisasale is looking forward to having Australia’s elite karting series kick off in his town next month and given that it is a free admission event he hopes it will provide some extra excitement in the region.

“The last few weeks have been devastating for the region with thousands of people losing their homes but we’ve got a real fighting spirit out here and we really want to get everything back to normal as quickly as possible,” said Mayor Pisasale.

“Motorsport is something that Ipswich is renowned for with the Queensland Raceway, Willowbank Raceway and Ipswich Kart Club hosting some of the country’s top line motor racing events. I’m delighted to hear that the CIK Stars of Karting Series is still coming to town next month.

“Given that admission to the event is free it will certainly provide our community with an enjoyable event where the family can go out and see some great motorsport action.”

In conjunction with the opening round of the CIK Stars of Karting Series, the Australian Karting Association (QLD) will be holding a fundraising night, the details of which will be advised in the coming weeks.

The Ipswich kart track is located on Champions Way, Willowbank.
