Baines Motorsport Racing For A Cause

The Baines Motorsport Team will undergo a change of colour scheme and race numbers for 2011 as they race for a cause, raising money for ongoing breast cancer research.

The karts of father and son speedway kart team Wayne and Jake Baines will sport a striking new black, pink and white design. Both karts will carry the number 14 into the 2011 season. The new-look machines will be unveiled in the coming week.

During the off season, Jake approached his Dad and asked if he could use his racing to help spread the word about breast cancer and also try and raise money for the McGrath Foundation.

The request made Jake's parents, Wayne and Alana, very proud that their 14-year-old boy would like to try and make a difference. Following Jake’s lead , Wayne then decided he would join Jake and try and raise funds for the Breast Cancer Council.

The number 14 comes into play as this was Alana’s racing number. Given the boys will be raising money for women’s charities, they decided to both run Alana’s number in her honour.

The boys have a big season planned and will be contesting all of the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club race meetings at Nepean Motorsport Complex, selected events at Gosford showground plus the NSW State Titles in June and the Australian Titles in September.

With approval given from both associations, Wayne and Jake will be trying to raise as much money as possible throughout the year with merchandise sales from both groups, plus donation buckets at each race meeting.

The team has received  great support from Gavin Skene (Stillshots.com) with the new design, Brendan Fox (Showpiece Signs) for sign writing the karts, and Ralph Green (DTO Racewear) for new race suits. Other sponsors are Parramatta Kart Warehouse and  Hopping’s Mowers .

Anybody wishing to make a donation, or would like to become part of the team that's trying to make a difference, can contact Wayne on 0418 662 003.

Both drivers have high expectations of achieving good results both on and off the track this season.

2010 saw Jake move into the Junior class and spent the season finding his way against some seasoned and very talented drivers. However, after a full season learning the traits of those drivers, he now feels he is ready to give the Junior competition a real run for the title.

Wayne, on the other hand, had a season that wasn’t quite to the standard he set for himself. In a year that saw him developing  a new style of  Benson chassis, he initially struggled to match the feild. However, towards the end of the season the changes made to the kart saw him on the pace, taking out round wins. He is very confident  for the start of the 2011 season.

The duo's first race meeting is scheduled for Nepean on the February 20.
