New Classes for Eastern Lions Club

In addition to the 'standard' categories, the Eastern Lions Kart Club will be hosting three unique classes on their cub days at Puckapunyal in 2011.

“We are proud to be offering classes that we believe fill a gap in the current class structure and therefore make kart racing accessible to more drivers keen to participate” the club’s Ian Branson informed KartSportNews.

CLASS 1: CLUBMAN/SPORTSMAN OVER 35’S

In an effort to cater for drivers who have been around for awhile, we are changing our Clubman Over 40’s class to include drivers aged 35 and up. This should encourage drivers struggling against the young 'hot shots' to come and join Clubman racing with older and wiser competitors. This class will be run under Clubman Over 40’s rules, ie, 160kg weight, MG Red tyres, Yamaha engine.

CLASS 2: SPORTSWOMAN 100 (LADIES ONLY) TAG RESTRICTED AND CLUBMAN

This class will be run every 2nd month starting in March. It’s open to female drivers with “C” grade or Provisional “C” grade licence.  There is debate about the weight limits which are yet to be confirmed as none of the guys are brave enough to make a decision on ladies weights.  Seriously though, an informed decision will be made as information on numbers and kart/engine combinations become clearer. Controlled MG Red tyres apply.  This class is attracting a lot of interest from the ladies and looks set to be very popular.

CLASS 3: OPEN

This class will also run every 2nd month beginning in February. It is open to any AKA approved kart engine combination, including Twin karts, Shifter karts, Formula 100 and 125 etc. This class is for high horsepower kart owners to have a drive on club days without the need to form their own class. Weight and Rules as per AKA rule book for the respective kart/engine combination.
