NSW State Cup (South), Round 1from Adam Smith The first round of the AKA’s NSW State Cup Series was held at the Griffith Kart Track on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th February 2011. The race attracted drivers from all across the NSW, as many took the opportunity to use this race meeting as a trial run before the NSW Closed State Titles, which will be held at the Griffith Kart Track on July 8 to 10. A new feature of the NSW State Cup Series format was the 2 lap carby session immediately followed by a 5 minute qualifying session. Many drivers enjoyed the challenge of finding the right kart set-up and strategy to try and produce the best lap time in this session. After the qualifying order was established, there were 2 heats run on the Saturday afternoon, before running of the pre-finals under lights on Griffith’s popular floodlit track. Karters returned to the track on Sunday morning for Finals day. There was some amazing racing on the track, with many of the finals coming down to the wire. Every driver gave it their all to be in the lead on the final lap, and to take the class win in this final-only-counts format. Results on AKA CM:s HERE.
