Superkarts Australia Role Ratified In CAMS Meeting

press release/member information

A meeting was convened by CAMS (Feb 8th) to discuss and review aspects of the Australian Superkart Championships.

The SKA Chairman Clint Brown, and Company Secretary Phil Silcock travelled to CAMS National Office to meet with AMRC Chairman Lyn Punshon, Motor Sport Manager Paul Taylor, and CAMS Board Member Graeme Emerton. It was determined that the incorporation, operation, and category management of Superkarts Australia Pty Ltd is appropriate and consistent with CAMS Superkart Organising Entity category delegation references in all respects.

SKA is very pleased for the opportunity to have the Delegation and SKA Terms of Reference clarified and confirmed and quotes here the SKA roles from the meeting notes distributed by AMRC Chairman Lyn Punshon:

"To promote and manage CAMS Australian Superkart Championships and CAMS International Superkart events in Australia. (Sporting Regs, Track/Promoter Negotiation, Championship Competitor information etc.)
To represent the interests of all CAMS members competing in the Australian Superkart Championship and higher levels of Superkart competition in Australia."

This clarifies the situation and status of SKA so that competitors can understand the role and clear delineation of responsibility in Australian Superkarting.

Superkarts Australia is the Category Manager for the Australian Superkart Championships and higher level events. This puts to rest completely any confusion created by misinformation and rumours propagated in un-moderated areas by un-authorised individuals.

A meeting that included Superkart Club representatives was also held to include discussion of the subject of SKA and Superkart Club roles, whereby the meeting outcomes obligate Superkart Clubs to form a workable association between them that fairly and adequately represents each Club equally to progress technical and race meeting standing regulations below Australian Championship level. The formation guidelines will become clearer in the coming weeks. SKA will liaise with the new Association of Clubs and with CAMS ongoing as appropriate.

A request made from CAMS to SKA to forego a scheduled SKA NGB 'Nationals' event with Shannons Race Series at Mallala in May was agreed with in principle subject to the renegotiation of commercial arrangements, as it is not a Championship level race event in any respect.  SKA appreciates the cooperation from Shannons in cancelling the SKA booking for this event. While SKA aims to serve the interests of all superkarters including NGB competitors, until such time as the NGB class transit to an Australian Championship level of competition which becomes the delegated responsibility of SKA, their racing will be conducted at club level by state clubs.

As always, SKA's focus is running the best possible Australian Superkart Championships for local and visiting international superkarters.
