Strong Start For CRG At CIK Opener

press release

The CRG Racing Team started their 2011 Australian CIK Stars of Karting campaign with a strong qualifying run during the opening day of competition at the Ipswich circuit in Queensland claiming pole in the Pro Junior (KF3) category, P2 in Pro Light (KF1) and P3 in Pro Gearbox (KZ2).

Reigning Pro Junior (KF3) CIK Stars of Karting champion Pierce Lehane started his title defence in the best possible fashion recording the fastest time (48.249), an impressive 0.224 faster than his closest rival.

Lehane then continued his scintillating form into the shootout to again out-pace his rivals, this time more than three tenths of a second quicker before winning both the opening heat and heat three with daylight between himself and second place.

The only hiccup for Lehane came at the start of heat two when he was forced wide allowing the entire 21-kart field to pass. However a determined drive aboard his CRG chassis saw the young 15 year-old passing karts at will as he raced his way up to a strong fifth.

“Today was a good day, everything ran smooth and we really got our stuff together for qualifying and the shootout to claim pole,” stated Lehane.

“Heat one was good as I was able to pull clear and control the race but I got in a little trouble early in heat two however my CRG kart was awesome when I needed and I was able to push and race from the back up to fifth.”

“A good start in heat three allowed me to pull clear again to control the race so now I’m really looking forward to the finals tomorrow.”

Jason Hryniuk was impressive in his Pro Light KF1 debut qualifying his CRG Black Hawk 32 chassis in P2 a mere 0.013 of a second behind 2010 defending champion Cian Fothergill.

Unfortunately mechanical gremlins plagued Hryniuk in the heats but the team are confident they will be right on track when it counts in tomorrow’s finals.

The CRG team was well represented in the 27-kart Pro Gearbox (KZ2) field and will see two drivers start tomorrow’s finals in the top eight.

Jason Pringle was red-hot early qualifying his CRG Road Rebel in P3 and despite a DNF in the opening heat, a third and fourth will see him line up in P8 for final one.

Meanwhile a consistent run through the heats for 2010 series runner-up Kel Treseder puts him out of P5 for final one. After claiming his maiden CIK Stars of Karting victory at this round last year expect Treseder to be on the money when it counts.

Also consistent were CRG’s Lydon Dodge and Brett Robinson in the Clubman Yamaha Challenge, the pair never outside the top ten and will start final one from P4 and P5 respectively to kick off proceedings on day two.
