TV Deal For Belgian Karting Championships

press release

With an average of more than 110 drivers per race last year, the Belgian Karting Championship is doing very well. And the 2011 season is launched under the best possible circumstances with the introduction to the calendar of a race in France, and also the broadcasting of televised coverage which will be provided to various outlets in the country thereby guaranteeing the widest possible audience for our racers’ endeavours and sporting competition.

One does not change a winning formula, but one can always look to improve it. It is on the basis of this report that the RACB Sport prepared its 2011 Belgian Karting Championship. As last year, the official categories of the CIK-FIA which are the KZ2 (karts with gear box), the KF2 (Hopefuls) and the KF3 (Juniors from 13 to 15 years) will be joined by the KF5 (Juniors from 11 to 13 years), the Minis (from 8 to 11 years with two motor options: Mini Parilla or Mini Micromax) and the Challenge IAME X30.

To build on the impetus created in 2010, the RACB also proposes an enticing ‘carrot’ for the best Belgian driver in KF5 in the form of a ticket to take part in the Trophy Academy of the CIK-FIA, the only proviso being that the driver should be of the necessary age.

Whilst there will be no change to the format of the meetings, with two distinct programmed days on the Saturday and Sunday (free practice, qualifying practice and two races), the calendar has been moved. The season will begin in April at Mariembourg and will finish at the same venue in October, while the competitors will have visited the track at Genk and the French track at Ostricourt, at the same time as the championship of France. Here is a good example of Franco-Belgian co-operation. “It is a test”, explains Mathieu Remmerie, karting manager of the Belgian federation. “We think that the opportunity of joining with our French friends will make it possible for Belgian competitors to meet other opponents during a meeting with a little different dimension. And then, that could encourage certain French competitors to also take part in our championship. This arrangement will however relate only to the KZ2, KF2 and KF3 classes. Indeed, the timing of the French championship did not make it possible to include the KF5, Minis and X30. ”

The other great innovation of this season will relate to the production of TV images of the Belgian Championship. “The specialized emissions Automobile (RTBF) and Moteurs (Club-RTL and RTL-TVi) will use these images”, explains Mathieu Remmerie. “The RTBF should also screen karting in the Sporting Weekend. In Flandres, the Pitstop broadcast on Life! TV also showed an interest. And then, these reports will all be visible on Internet.”

In short, without doubt, the Belgian championship is going places! Please also note that the bulletin for inscriptions is still available on the Internet site of the RACB (www.racb.com), as is the result of the invitation to tender for the tyres. In short, let us announce here and now that Vega will supply categories KF2 and KF3 (as with the international level and in the French championship) and also the KZ2. In KF5, the Le Cont tyres will be used by the participants (as in the Championship of the U18 World Championship and the Trophy Academy of the CIK-FIA). Lastly, Maxxis will provide the tyres for the Mini category.

Let us further underline that, thanks to the efforts of the organizers and the RACB Sport, the commitments of the Mini category will be relaxed compared to 2010 whereas the Mini licence still remains at an advantageous price. A good way to encourage the young champions to go about things!
