Wet WSK Round At Sarno

press release

There were exciting duels on a wet track at the WSK Euro series on the Circuito Internazionale Napoli in Sarno (Salerno, Italy) where the winners were Chamberlain (GB-Intrepid-TM KF1), Dreezen (D - Tony Kart-Vortex KZ1), Van de Burgt (NL - Maddox-Parilla KZ2), Cucco (I - Birel-Parilla KF2) and Ocon (F - FA Kart-Vortex KF3).

The WSK Euro series launches new top drivers. Rain has added suspense to the opening round of the WSK Euro Series of karting. A moist soil has inverted all the results achieved until yesterday when the qualifying heats and the first finals for class KF1 and KZ1-KZ2 had shown the favorites for the crowning win. From 244 drivers resulting from the sporting check, the qualifying heats creamed off 34 drivers in every class that competed a very heated final today afternoon, covered live on Rai Sport 1.

Jordan Chamberlain, the king of the day in KF1. Starting in 6th row, English Jordan Chamberlain (Intrepid-TM-Vega) got off a good start in Final 2 and avoided a series of touches slowing down a fair chunk of favorites for victory. Under difficult conditions owing to a dump track, Chamberlain was completely successful in finishing the race and, from an early third place, he quickly went into the lead. Behind him, French Sébastien Bailly (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega) first withstood ahead of British Chris Lock (Tony Kart-Vortex) to give then way to an unstoppable Czech Libor Toman (Birel-BMB-Vega) in the concluding phase. The latter, starting in 11th row, due to few hitches in the heats, amazingly recovered and achieved the 2nd place behind the leader Chamberlain.

Rick Dreezen back to the top in KZ1. Such a difficult day has left its mark in KZ1 too: after Belgian Jonathan Thonon (CRG-Maxter-Dunlop) dominating yesterday, it was again CRG team to hold the lead at first in today’s Final 2 with Italian Davide Forè leaping forward like a hare. Stealing the lead from his compatriot Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), at the end of the first few laps under neutralization, Forè managed to counter Belgian Rick Dreezen’s attack for a while. But in the last third of the race, Dreezen was successful in launching his attack and taking the lead once and for all. Similarly, Ardigò did the same shortly afterwards and along with his teammate mounted the first two steps on the podium, whereas Forè finished third. In KZ2, it was Dutch Ryan Van De Burgt (Maddox-Parilla-Dunlop) to dominate, being constantly at the lead throughout the race. Behind him, Swedish Joel Johansson (Energy-TM-Dunlop) and Czech Martin Doubek (Tony Kart-Vortex-Dunlop).

Cucco’s supremacy in KF2 even at European level. Spurred by the victory at the first round of the WSK Master Series in Muro Leccese two weeks ago, Stefano Cucco from Biella, Italy (Birel-Parilla-Vega) started a great duel with the early leader Belgian Sami Luka  (Energy-TM-Vega)  in  Final 2. Cucco proved again to be very competitive on a wet track by giving his opponent a hard time until he successfully overtook in the concluding laps. French Victor Sendin (Tony-Vortex-Vega) was good in withstanding and finished third despite Antonio Giovinazzi’s recovery (PCR-Parilla-Vega) up to a final fourth place.

Esteban Ocon unbeatable in the wet in KF3. At the start, Dutch Max Verstappen (CRG-Maxter-Vega) surprised everyone by choosing an outer course and going into the lead undisturbed. His leadership seemed to be unassailable. A wet track however is always treacherous and after slewing round the leader lost three positions. Therefore, English George Russell (Intrepid-TM-Vega) took the lead but French Esteban Ocon (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) passed him soon afterwards. Verstappen managed to recover behind Ocon whereas English Callan Okeeffe (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) concluded third.
