Australian Speedway Kart Title Washed Out

The 2011 Australian Speedway Kart Titles scheduled for Bega this weekend will not go ahead.

Sections of the Sapphire Speedway track are under water and other parts washed away. The main access road has also been damaged and secondary access has suffered a landslide.

The event will be run at a later date, and possibly at a different venue.

The club's website reports that:

  • The river is still up and the riverside part of the track is still underwater 
  • The bottom corner is gone
  • The light on turn 3 and the tyrewall is gone
  • The track is damaged generally
  • The prime access road is severely damaged
  • The second access road has had a landslip
  • The area is generally suffering from a lack of power and phone access
