A1 Engines Drivers Win 3 State Titles

press release

A1 Engines drivers performed strongly at the Victorian State Championships held at the Todd Road circuit against a large contingent of quality drivers from all over Australia.

Nicholas Ellen scored a double by winning Senior National Light and Heavy, and Reece Sidebottom took out the Rookies title.

Sidebottom didn’t have it all is own way in Rookies running second behind fastest qualifier Rhys Wooley for most of the final. Disappointingly, Wooley was forced to retire with mechanical problems 4 laps from home while leading.

Ellen lead from the start in Senior Heavy and was never headed to score his first state title. After a seesawing battle for the lead in Senior Light, he was again able to grab the ascendancy and draw away in the last half of the final to secure the double.

It could so very easily have been a quadrella for A1 with James Golding coming off poll in the Junior National Light final. He was beaten across the line by a mere .006 seconds, one of the closest finishes ever at a Victorian state title.

Midget drivers Thomas Bennett  and Chase Wooley drove consistently well and were among the top runners for the whole weekend finishing second and third respectively in the final.

Junior national heavy driver, Todd Hazelwood, was narrowly beaten after leading all the way in final until the last couple of corners.  He also finished 4th in Junior Clubman.

In his first drive for A1, Liam Morey finished a very creditable second in Junior Clubman, particularly given his time away from competitive karting.

After mechanical gremlins affected the early part of the weekend, Thomas Allen gained the final podium spot; fifth in Senior National Light.

A1 Engines congratulates all drivers on their performances and efforts during the weekend.
