Strong Start For CRG At CIK SOK Round 2

press release

The CRG Racing Team started in strong fashion claiming two pole positions in qualifying at the second round the Australia’s elite karting series, the CIK Stars of Karting at the Southern Go Kart Club’s Bolivar Raceway in South Australia today.

Reigning Pro Junior (KF3) class Champion Pierce Lehane topped the time sheets once again setting a blistering pace which he backed up in the shootout to record the fastest time, two and a half tenths of a second quicker the Joseph Mawson in second place.

From there, Lehane then won the opening heat in style before fouling a spark plug prior to the start of heat two resulting in a DNF. He then hit back perfectly by winning the third heat to earn a start from fourth on the grid for tomorrows opening 34 lap final.

“I’m really liking the Bolivar circuit, it is the first time I have raced here but my CRG kart really suits the layout,” said Lehane.

“We had a plug foul in heat two and there was nothing we could do about that but my CRG was perfect in the other two heats and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s finals as I think we’ll be right up  there.”

Local CRG driver Daniel Price was the other driver to claim pole in qualifying setting the pace in the Clubman Yamaha Challaenge and went on to record a sixth, third and a victory from his three heats in the ultra-competitive class and will see him line up on the front row in P2 for tomorrow’s 22-lap pre-final.

Clubman round one winner Lydon Dodge will start right behind his CRG teammate Price in P4 after carding results of third, fourth and second in the three heats and will be looking to secure his second round win in a row tomorrow.

CRG Pro Gearbox (KZ2) teammates Kel Treseder and Jason Pringle both raced strongly in the heats, Treseder scoring three fourth placings, the 2010 series runner-up set to start tomorrows final one from P3.

“Today was a good day for us, it was all about accumulating points to gain a good starting spot for tomorrow’s final and my CRG kart handled great and allowed me to do just that,” explained Treseder.

“We had a good start to the series in Ipswich and plan to continue that tomorrow although it is going to be a tough day doing 68 laps (two – 34-lap finals) but I think we can be there when it counts.”

Pringle raced wheel-to-wheel with Treseder in the first two heats finishing fifth and third however after coming together with local racer Scott Taylor early in heat three and recording a DNF, he will be one to watch starting final one from P11.

Also worth keeping an eye on tomorrow will be long time CRG racer Jason Hryniuk who after enduring engine related issues early today will start tomorrow’s opening Pro Light (KF1) final from P6.
