Emily Claims SKUSA Pro Kart Top 5

press release

With the cold weather starting to break in Canada, female pilot Emily Maddison traveled to California for the opening round of the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Kart Challenge South program at Buttonwillow Raceway in Buttonwillow, California. Competing aboard an FA Kart with the Phil Giebler Racing program, Maddison went on to claim a top five result in the TaG Senior category.

"This is my first year as a senior but I really enjoy racing against such fierce competition," explained Maddison. "The junior class seems to be more of a dive bomb and hope you make it race while the senior drivers are much more calculated and definitely a lot smarter in the way they approach the event."

With qualifying taking place in the morning, Maddison would look to take a run at the elusive pole position along with seventeen other hungry drivers. Utilizing driver coaching from Phil Giebler, the Canadian driver claimed the fifth quickest time of the session a mere .084 off the pole position.

Utilizing the two heat format to set grid positions for the main event, Maddison would take the green flag for heat one but would run into trouble by the midway point.  Racing hard with fellow competitors, Maddison and another kart made contact relegating her down the running order to eventually be classified in the tenth position.

On to heat two, Maddison would be forced to start close to the tail of the field. Looking to make up positions early, a gaggle of karts impeded her process, as she would cross the stripe in the thirteenth position. Though the result doesn't speak for her true outright speed, Maddison was running times comparable to the race winner but starting deep in the field at a track where passing is difficult is very tough.

Starting from the tail of the field again for the main event, the Canadian pilot was determined to move her FA Kart forward. Having an outstanding start and picking up multiple positions early in the race, Maddison would break into the top ten in the opening laps. Using her outright speed, the fifteen year old charged forward to the fifth position before the red flag would fly for an incident involving another driver.

With a single file restart and a shootout to the end, Maddison would lose two positions but would quickly gain them again as she claimed a solid fifth position. Along with the top five, Maddison garnered the third quickest lap time of the event and has something to build on towards the next round.

Maddison continued, "I can't thank Phil Giebler Racing enough for their hard work and continued support. The driver coaching that Phil brings to the table is invaluable and goes a long way to scoring good results."
