Australian Karting Nationals - Qualification Day in Perthfrom karting.net.au Fothergill and Waters top two classes each Local driver Kip Foster has set the pace in the highly competitive Clubman Heavy category at the 49th National Sprint Kart Championships at the Cockburn International Raceway in Western Australia today. Foster finished on top of the timesheets to lead a Monaco trifecta during qualifying with fellow West Australian Adam Levi second fastest ahead of Remo Luciani. “It is a great way to start the weekend – I’m over the moon,” said an elated Foster. “I couldn’t have got pole position without the help of (Adam) Levi. I didn’t really get a good lap in during first qualifying and he then gave me a tow (slipstream) in second qualifying which helped me get to the top. “During that session I was watching the times come up on my data logger and knew that I would end up right near the front but to finish up on pole is fantastic. “It is also great to have Remo there in third to make it Monaco one-two-three. I’m feeling good about the weekend ahead.” Reigning CIK Stars of Karting Series Champion Cian Fothergill qualified fastest in Clubman Light and Leopard Light while Matthew Waters was the pacesetter in the both the Senior National Light and Heavy categories. In the Junior ranks it was South Australian Todd Hazelwood who finished on top of the timesheets in the fastest junior category, Junior Clubman. Jesse Eliott was second fastest ahead of Hazelwood’s fellow Fujitsu Cool Driver Jason LeCocq. The opening round of heat races began this afternoon and will continue tomorrow ahead of the pre-finals. The Championship Finals will be contested on Sunday.
