Euro KF2 and KF3 Qualification Get Underway

press release

Unlike previous years it will not be three but two regional Qualification events for the CIK-FIA European KF2 and KF3 Championships which will simultaneously be held this weekend of 1st May 2011.

The division of Europe into 3 zones (North, West and Centre) is replaced by a division of the old continent into 2 regions, so-called North and South. Some of the main reasons for adopting this new format are the will to reinforce the Organisers and to reduce the logistic costs of those Teams which are sometimes cosmopolitan and service Drivers from several regions.

The British PF International Circuit, at Brandon, will be the epicentre of the North European Trophy, gathering Drivers from Great Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia, the Benelux, Poland, Russia and the Baltic countries. The specificity of the Northern event is that it will also have the privilege of welcoming Drivers from other continents wishing to race in Europe. So some Brazilian, Japanese, Indonesian, Canadian and Uruguayan Drivers will compete for a weekend against the “Northerners”.

Last year, the PF Int’l Circuit had already been the venue of a European Qualification, and as they perfectly knew the course, which is more difficult than it appears, English Drivers had almost had a stranglehold.
The other European Drivers will compete at Varennes-sur-Allier, in France, within the framework of the South European Trophy. The French will theoretically have the benefit of running at home but many foreigners have seized the opportunity of the recent opening of the French Championships at Varennes to master this track’s rapid course which favours the slip-streaming effect and is always the stage of spectacular races often undecided until the chequered flag.

These North and South European Trophies will be used to designate the 180 happy candidates (90 per category) who will be eligible for the European Championship itself on 24 July 2011 at Zuera, in Spain. The number of Drivers qualified per Trophy is determined in proportion to the number of entries in each region.

In KF3, to land one’s ticket to be a finalist it will therefore be necessary to finish in the top 43 at PF and in the top 47 at Varennes.

In KF2, the top 42 in Great Britain and the top 48 in France will have the right to enter the grand finale in Spain.
