New Enduro Team Wins On Debut

press release

Queensland based racers Josh Townsend and Luke deLaurence, both former members of QLD Prokart Series wining outfit DQ Int, have joined forces to create an exciting new 4 Stroke endurance kart racing team named Project 20.

The team made the decision early on not to contest the full QLD based series due to other commitments, instead targeting specific races to contest across the Prokart and TEKA sanctioned state series held in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

The first race on the team’s hit list was round 2 of the Prokart QLD series held on the 17th of April at the Cooloola kart track outside of Gympie.

A minor problem during the qualifying sprint race on Saturday resulted in the team starting from the back of the closely packed field for the 6-hour feature race on Sunday. Not to be deterred, Project 20 elected to run an unorthodox strategy for their compulsory driver changes and fuel stops which took them out of synch with the rest of the field.

An early safety car period combined with the rapid pace set by driver Luke deLaurence saw the team catapult to the lead before the end of the opening hour. A position they never relinquished, setting the fastest lap of the race by 3 tenths and powering on to win by 3 and a half laps from defending 2010 QLD series champions PDS Racing. Former CIK Ford Kart Stars racer Josh Townsend described Project 20’s custom built and modified Azzurro chassis as ‘the best kart I have ever driven’.

Project 20 was also pleased to announce sponsorship from race wear supplier X-treme Racing. With individual stints behind the wheel which can reach up to 2 hours; endurance racing drivers demand high quality, hard wearing gear which offers comfort and support. Project 20’s suits, boots, gloves and shirts supplied by X-treme Racing drew plenty of compliments from competitors on the day; the team taking out the award for ‘Best Presented’ as a result.
