Speedway Club Hopes For Dry Mother's Day

press release

The New South Wales Speedway Kart Club and its members are hoping, after the wash out of The Nepean Open and the 2011 Celebration Day, that Mother Nature plays her part and allows Round 3 of the 2011 Championship to be run this Sunday under sunny skies.

The club has seen the worst start (weather-wise) to a season having not “turned a wheel” since The Champion Of Champions race back in February.  Drivers are eager to hit the Nepean circuit again and get some laps under their belts.

Sunday is the scheduled Round 3 of the Championship and competitors will be contesting the Mother’s Day Cup.  This meeting will see 70-plus drivers take part in the very competitive Championship points chase.

After Round 1 wingless sprintcar driver, Nathan Bailey, sits on top of the Championship leader board, however it is the Clubman classes that dominated Round 1 with four drivers in the top 10.

On the programme will be the long awaited return of the Mighty Midgets.  As Round 1 was their volunteer day, the Midgets haven’t hit the track this year.  A big field of 16 is expected to turn out and should be great to watch.

The Rookies will have a competitive field of 7 or 8 and they will all be chasing championship leader, Luke Sayre.

The Juniors will put on spirited racing again and, in a true battle of the sexes, this field of 16 has 6 girls who are all taking it up to the boys. The young ladies are doing a great job and this year we could very well see the crowning of our first female Junior champion.

Both Clubman Light and Heavy will be on the programme and leading in the Light class is Jonathon Bright while in the Heavy class another wingless sprintcar pilot, Joel Rhind, leads the way and these two talents will again be the ones to watch.

The KT Modified Light drivers will be doing their Club volunteer day leaving the KT Pro stars to compete again as the leading senior class.  For this weekend 16 to 20 drivers have indicated their intention to race and as this will be the last race of the day, it will be the one everyone will be at the fence to watch.

Former East Coast Modified Champion, David Hopping, was the “class” of the field in Round 1 but there is a big posse ready to run him down at Sunday’s meeting.

On the day, young Junior driver, Jake Baines, will have a Pamper Hamper raffle for mothers or ladies to enter with all proceeds going to his year long Breast Cancer Awareness charity fundraising.

All in all this is going to be a great speedway meeting and will be an enjoyable day out for all speedway fans - providing Mother Nature plays her part.

The racing at the Nepean Motorsport Complex on Rickards Road, Castlereagh is scheduled to start at 10am.

There is a full canteen facility for all your eating and drinking requirements throughout the day.

The NSWSKC would like to acknowledge and thank all their corporate partners for their continued support throughout 2011.
