Topp Up for Harrington Doyle Racing

press release

It‘s official, Toowoomba’s CIK Stars of Karting Clubman Yamaha competitor and Arrow pilot, Brooke Topp has joined the Yatala based Kart team of Harrington Doyle Racing.

The 18yo Bachelor of Science University Student and occasional Golfer unknowingly impressed the HDR Team last year.  Whilst nothing further came of it back then, more recently a chance meeting on the way home from Adelaide’s CIK round introduced Topp to the HDR Crew.

“Brooke really caught our attention last year when he took it up to Brendan (Nelson), James (Greenwood) and Tyler (Greenbury) in the Toowoomba Supercheap Auto Kart Series round.  We also saw him qualify on Pole in 4 of the 5 Rounds of the Southern Stars Series Clubman Light class.  That also really impressed us.  Not only did he present visually on track exceptionally well, he really took us by surprise with how quick he was last season”, said HDR Team Principal, Craig Doyle.

“I remember asking at one stage, who is that kid?  I did some initial asking around to find out some more about him, but I’d already had some other things on the go towards the end of last year, so we didn’t get back to find out what Brooke was doing for 2011.  On the way home from CIK Round 2 in Adelaide, I stopped for fuel at West Wyalong.  Brooke and his dad Chris were there ahead of us and recognised the HDR Trailer.  Chris came over and introduced himself.  Whilst we didn’t say anything to them there, we were glad to have reconnected and then spent the rest of the journey home talking about how we could offer Brooke a Green & Blue X-treme Racing suit.  We thought that he’d be a perfect fit to our operation, since Brendan’s move to the Arrow Factory Team.”

Topp’s career is quite a notable one, having started racing in 2002.  He won the Queensland Closed State Titles Midget Title and the Toowoomba Kart Club Championship for Midgets in 2003.  The following year he won the Sparco Rookie Challenge (CIK Support Class) and the Toowoomba Kart Club Championship for Rookies.  In 2005 he was awarded the Queensland Karter of the Year for the Rookies class and has since had a stellar regional junior career history.  In 2010 although running a limited program he stepped up into the senior ranks and finished 2nd overall in the Southern Stars Series for the Clubman Light class.  This year he’s already making his mark on the CIK Stars of Karting Yamaha Challenge, currently running 4th in the Points Table after the second round.

“Our entire Team is looking forward to welcoming Brooke into the Team.  Together with James Greenwood he’ll be a great role model for our junior drivers in the squad.  Brooke has shown that he is competitive and has pride in the appearance of his Kart & Gear.  It’s always our ambition to represent well on and off the track and we certainly want to be in the leading pack of any Yamaha racing that we’re doing.  He should do our Team Partners proud,” said Doyle.

Excited about the new alliance between himself and the HDR Team, Topp will first represent the Team and its Partners on track in the upcoming Round 3 of the CIK Stars of Karting Yamaha Challenge, at Todd Road, Port Melbourne on 17 – 19 June.
