Mother’s Day Cup A Great Success for NSWSKC

press release

Weatherwise, Mother’s Day last Sunday was a perfect day and, for the NSWSKC, it was a fantastic race meeting on the superbly prepared Castlereagh circuit.

Over 80 karters were involved in the running of the Mother’s Day Cup which formed Round 3 of the 2011 Championship season.  After the last two events were washed out due to rain, drivers were itching to get on track and it showed as they put on some excellent displays of speedway racing.

This meeting was the first meeting of the year for the mighty Midgets and a big field of 14 were on hand to race.  Heats 1 and 3 were won by Kaidon Brown while the vastly improved Brandon Moore won heat 2.  The feature race was won by Kaidon Brown with a very spirited drive from grid position 13. The final placings for the day were 1st Kaidon Brown, 2nd Jake Donaldson and 3rd Brandon Moore claiming his first podium finish.

The Rookie class had some close racing and Andrew Beattie almost had a clean sweep for the day winning heats 1, 2 and the feature.  In heat 3 he was in contention for the win but young lady racer, Taylor Coghlan, crossed the line first to claim victory.  The final placings were 1st Andrew Beattie, 2nd Luke Sayre, 3rd Taylor Coghlan.

The Junior class fronted with 12 competitors and the field was split evenly with 6 boys and 6 girls. The focus was whether the girls could take on the boys and get some of the glory.  The results ended up even as well. Heat 1 went to the boys with Daniel Sayre winning.  Heat 2 saw the girls hit back with Nikki Briton taking the win and heat 3 saw a win go to Jake Baines for the boys. The feature was a 1st and 2nd for the girls with Nikki Briton winning and Katelyn Hickey second.  When the points were tallied the results were 1st Daniel Sayre, 2nd Jake Baines and 3rd Jordyn Brazier.

During the day some of the toughest racing was seen in the Clubman Light class. The evidence of this was that the 3 heats had 3 different winners!  Heat 1 was taken out by Matt Pescod; heat 2 saw Sean Mayo take victory and heat 3 was led home by Jonathon Bright. The feature race saw the only dual winner of the class for the day - Matt Pescod - who took the win.  The final placings after the points were added were 1st Jonathon Bright, 2nd Dan Morris and 3rd Jason Woodward.

Clubman Heavy saw the return of both Daniel and Anthony Selmes and Matt Elliott to the class and the field fronted with 11 karts.  The heat racing saw Gary Slarke win heat 1, Anthony Selmes winning heats 2 and 3 and Tim Baker take out the feature race.  The final Clubman heavy placings were
1st Tim Baker, 2nd Anthony Selmes and 3rd Gary Slarke.

The KT Pro class was the final class to run and due to over subscription had to be split into 2 groups.  In group 1 wins were shared between Greg Coghlan (heats 1 and 2), Tim Beattie (heat 3) and Brad Cunneen won the final.  In group 2, Michael Jordan won heat 1 and Wayne Baines took out heats 2, 3 and the final.  When the 2 groups were brought back together and the points tallied, 1st place went to Wayne Baines, 2nd Michael Jordan and 3rd Tim Beattie.

Other awards on the day were:

Speedsport Media High Points Award:  Kaidon Brown
On Track Automotive Hard Luck Award: Bailey McDougall
Stillshots Art Of Speedway Racing Award: Lachlan McDougall

On the day, Jake Baines held a Mother’s Day raffle with proceeds going to his Breast Cancer Awareness fund raising effort and the winning ticket was held by Lou Briton.  The raffle helped raise $375 to the end of season total.

This was a great race meeting and as a treat to those that stayed around after presentation, the mothers were treated to a game of touch football held by the sons, daughters and husbands in what was a great family afternoon.

The next on-track date for the NSWSKC is on the 5th June for the running of the Fire Service Plus sponsored “Masters” race meeting.

The NSWSKC would like to acknowledge and thank all their corporate partners for their continued support throughout 2011.
