Southern Star Series, Round 1

The weekend racing was fast and furious at Toowoomba on May 21-22 where over 100 karters descended onto Greer Park Raceway for the first round of the SOUTHERN STAR SERIES for 2011.
Qualifying and heat 1 were run on Saturday. Sunday morning met us with light rain and the 2nd heat of the weekend was on a moist track. The day then improved for dry racing for the rest of the day.
The locals did well. Midget locals, Cameron Shields, Nicholas James and Zac Hudson were up the top end of the field. Junior National Light driver Scott Hynes was beaten by State Champion, Lachlan McHugh by the length of the nose cone.
Chris Williams came a close 2nd in Junior National Heavy. Maxim Erickson did well in Junior Max to secure 2nd for the day. Clubman Light local Brooke Topp won all of his races to secure 1st place, followed by two other locals, Stuart White and Alexandra Whitley.
Clubman Oer 40s Greg Cooper came 3rd and Andrew Stevenson came 3rd in Tag Rest Heavy. Rotax Heavy was won by Brendan Nelson after winning the heats on Sunday.
The next round of the series is in Lismore in 2 weeks.
