CIK-FIA Inspects & Seals 'U18' Equipment

Behind the scenes of the U18 World Championship and Academy Trophy.

The very first official operation took place some days ago at Parolin Racing Kart facility in Romano d'Ezzelino (VI), just a few months before the prestigious opening race in Ortona.

In total the Championship is composed by three rounds reserved to the two categories for which the Italian company has been designed as the unique supplier for three years 2010, 2011 and 2012.

On July 10th, the Academy and the U18 drivers will race in Italy, while the other two races, valid for the allocation of the two titles, are scheduled for Essay (F), August 28th and Bahrain, November 5th.

The “first act” has been the control and the equipment seal from the International Sportive Authority, CIK-FIA, represented by its technical delegates, the English Dan Carter and the Italian Marcello Somera.

The inspection job concerned the Under 18 engines and the Academy chassis and motors. While in the first category, the choice of the chassis brand is free, in the second one, drivers runs with Parolin chassis and FIM WKE engine.

The entrant number increased compare to 2010, which confirms the goodness of the project: allocating the engines by drawing lots at each race, the maximum sporting equity is ensured.

The two categories are designated by Jean Todt, President of the International Federation and Ferrari Sport Director at the time of Michael Schumacher successes.

The Under 18 number of entrances increased from 70 entered in 2010 to 90 entered in 2011, while in the Academy Trophy, drivers will be 51 instead of 34 entered last year.

The first world-wide event of July 10th will be preceded by two days of Official Tests in Jesolo (VE) on June 3rd and 4th.
